Namaqua Game Lodge is situated 25km South of Springbok along the N7, main route between Cape Town and Namibia. Springbok is the Capital of Namaqualand, which is an ideal place from where to explore this area with it’s own unique and special charms as well as places of historical interest.
This mountainous game farm is approximately 6000 hectares in size. The peaceful atmosphere and enticing pool makes this the ideal stopover from and to Namibia.
Various game can be seen, such as: Springbok, Gemsbok, Eland, Kudu, Zebra, Ostrich, Blesbuck, Klipspringer, Steenbok and Duiker as well as numerous wild bird species including different breeds of Eagle.
One of the many features is the 4×4 trails. The mountainous terrain has approximately 40km of different 4×4 routes for the outdoor adventure lover. The Buffelsriver runs through the farm and in the dry season there are seven kilometers of riverbed to explore.
Others trails include Quad Bike trails, mountain bike trails, hiking trails and interesting historical features, such as one of the original routes followed by the Voortrekkers called “Burke’s Pass” and the former Northern Boundary of the Cape Colony until 1804 known as the “Buffels River”.
Also on the farm is an historical tree called the “Raadsboom” which was the first meeting place for the district council to meet in the early 1900’s.
Night drives can also be arranged to see “night life” and predators like jackal and other animals including porcupine, bat-eared foxes, links, aardvark, etc.
Namakwaland is known for its beautiful variety of wildflowers in springtime from August to October. Other sightseeing attractions are the diamond operations on the West Coast and the picturesque town of Hondeklipbay.
Due to no light pollution and natural “darkness” on the farm and surrounding areas, this is the ideal place for any stargazer to drift into the stars.
Namaqualand, famous for its wildflower display in spring, was one of the world’s most important copper mining areas at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays the diamond mines are more important. Because of its dry desert like climate, agriculture is mainly absent and population density low.

Famous for its diamonds, Kimberley is the capital of the Northern Cape. Here diggers and adventurers from all over the world collected in the 1870’s, around what was to become the Big Hole, the biggest ever excavated by pick and shovel.
Cecil John Rhodes and Barney Barnato established De Beers Consolidated Mines, to eventually control the diamond industrie world wide. The city’s museums recall those early days and tours are conducted underground to watch today’s miners at work.
South Africa’s last remaining tram runs from the city hall to the Big Hole every hour, stopping on request at Kimberley’s oldest pub.
Gum Tree Lodge is a complex of historic buildings, formerly De Beers final recovery plant, in five hectares of well-wooded grounds - hence the name “Gum Tree Lodge”.
There is a swimming pool with a children’s playground. Guests may cater for themselves or enjoy a drink at the adjoining Old Digger’s Restaurant.
Accommodation comprises 150 beds in double bunk dorms, twin bedded rooms, and a honeymoon suite, all at budget prices.

Recently refurbished, this elegant guesthouse offers a stunning view of Coleskop Mountain, visible from 40 km away. When the sun slips below the horizon, brushing the sky with brilliant hues, Coleskop’s former name, Towerberg (meaning Magic Mountain) seems more appropriate.

The rooms sleep from 2 to 6 people, all with bathroom en-suite or your own private bathroom (either with bath, shower or both). The comfortable rooms are all equipped with double or twin beds, boasting comfortable mattresses, crisp linen, ceiling fans and heaters, TV, electric blankets in winter and tea and coffee-making facilities. We offer an “English-style” breakfast in the morning, comprising a selection of cereals, fruit juice, bacon, sausage, eggs, tomato, yoghurt, toast and spreads and that essential bottomless cup of tea and coffee to kickstart you on your way. Breakfast is available from 6:30a.m. if you need to make an early start.

If you are reluctant to move your vehicle and unhitch your trailer once you are settled into the guesthouse, your hosts will gladly drop you off and collect you from the restaurant of your choice.
Colesberg has retained much of the charm of an early Karoo town and for such a small place has a remarkable number of national monuments. It was also the scene of considerable fighting during the Anglo-Boer War. For those interested and with a little time to spare, we can organise guided tours of the Colesberg/Kemper Museum, of the town or of the Anglo-Boer sites.
