Depart Nairobi for a journey to the shoulders of the Mt. Kenya arriving at Aberdare country club for lunch. Afternoon embark on half hour drive to the Ark lodge. Today you will depart the colourful metropolis of Nairobi and head for Lake Nakuru. Numerous animals are found here, but the shallow soda lake is particularly known for its bird life. Westward from the Rift Valley, you will pass through verdant tea plantations, as you will head towards the town of Eldoret on the banks of the Naiberi River. Camping. Lunch, Dinner.

Kenya Flying Safari Specials

You will be early picked from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or a city hotel and transferred to Wilson Airport for the scheduled flight to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival, you will be met for a game drive to the camp. Following lunch, you can take part in an exciting afternoon game drive returning to camp as the sun sets. Day 1: Nairobi

Whenever you arrive, Jim will personally meet you and take you to Nairobi’s finest hotel, The Norfolk. If you arrive early enough, there will be time to enjoy some of the city’s famous attractions, such as the national museum and Karen Blixen’s homestead. This evening Jim treats you to a welcome dinner at a famous Nairobi restaurant

Nanyuki - Nairobi Day 13

After breakfast, we pass Mt. Kenya, climbing past the foothills of the mountain and across the Equator. Picnic lunch, returning to Nairobi late afternoon.

Samburu Reserve Day 11 & 12

DAY 11
Samburu Reserve. We drive to Samburu Buffalo Springs camp.

DAY 12
The day is spent game viewing in the Reserve. Elephants abound; you should see lion, reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Grevey’s Zebra and Oryx. We camp within the Reserve.

Kaisut desert - Parsaloi Day 10

This is the toughest days ride and bush camp of the safari. Crossing the Kaisut desert, we head through the Matthew’s mountains into the Wamba area. Bush camp. [approx. 10 hours].

Lake Turkana - Loiyangalani Day 8 & 9

DAY 08
Crossing the Alberta Plains, we descend to the ‘Jade Sea, Lake Turkana. Private Camp site [approx. 5 hours].

DAY 09
A trip to E1 Molo Bay, here we visit the smallest tribe in Africa. At leisure at Loiyangalani. Swimming pool and cold beers available at ‘Oasis Lodge’ - at cost!.

Transfer to safari truck – Kurungu (OldonyoNyiru) Day 7

Depart from Maralal over the Rift Valley escarpment, north to Baragoi and South HOIT. North of S. Horr we arrive at Kurungu., nestling between Mt. Oldonyo Nyiru and Mt. Mara. Private camp site. [approx. 8 hours]

Yare Camel Club Day 6

Usually returning to our Club about mid day, you are free to explore Maralal town after lunch, or just relax around the Club. If you choose to visit the town, your Moran guides will accompany you to add to the experience. Before dusk the Samburu Morans and ladies will dance for you at the Club, before dinner and overnight in OUI Bandas.

Camel Trekking Day 3, 4 & 5

After a hot breakfast you set off through the bush. You may ride or walk, the gait is slow and the camels can allow you to change whenever you wish. Mattresses pad the locally made wooden frames 011 your camel. The pace is relaxed and there is plenty of time to study the environment and take pictures as you move along. There are only a few places where you might be forced to dismount due to washed out luggers and river beds. The camels axe led by Samburu Morans who will keep you informed of what you are seeing and of the culture of the people you may meet. On your arrival at camp a shower waits you [water permitting] and your cook will have afternoon tea and snacks ready for you. Later in the afternoon you may choose to go on a nature walk with your Moran guides.

Camel Trekking Day 2

After breakfast you set off through the bush and Maralal game sanctuary. It should be remembered that this is not primarily a game viewing safari, but you never know what you might bump into!

Transfer to Maralal Day 1

Depart Nairobi at 09:00am heading via Nyahururu to our Camel Club in Maralal. Overnight in self contained Bandas. [Approx. 8 hours]

MARALAL Day 6-7

DA Y 06
The camel trek ends late morning back at the Club house. Here you will take lunch before walking with your Moran guides into the frontier town of Maralal. There arc crafts to see, the Sarnburu market, and a way of life different from other places you might have visited on your holiday. In the evening the Morans and their ladies will dance for you at the Club where you will be free to take as many pictures as you want, even to join in the dancing if you reel up to it!!. This night you are in the Bandas again and can clean up before your free return transfer in the morning.

DAY 07
Breakfast and your free transfer back to Nairobi arriving usually in the late afternoon. [Lunch not included on this day).

CAMEL TREKKING/WALKING Day 3, 4 & 5

Mattresses pad the locally made wooden frames on the camels, and after breakfast you set out through the bush either riding or walking as you choose. It is a leisurely pace, and you may change from walking to riding as you prefer. You will pass by Samburu Manyattas that your lead Moran can organize for you to visit. As this is spontaneous, the Morans will discuss with the elders for permission for your entering, and you will be asked to pay something towards the family [or taking pictures and viewing their homes. This is not included in the safari cost and is only a small amount offered as a courtesy. Each day}’ you will have a picnic lunch in the bush, and then continue to your next campsite, where your cook will be waiting for you. Most evenings are beside water and a shower will be erected for you to wash the dust off [water allowing].

CAMEL TREKKING/WALKING Day 2

After breakfast departure with your camels and Morans into the bush. You will trek through the area never quite sure what you will see. It should be remembered that this safari is not primarily a game viewing safari, it is one led by, and in total harmony with the local Samburu people. Picnic lunch en route, afternoon arrival at your pre-prepared camp where your cook will be ready to offer you afternoon tea and snacks. Later on you may decide to take a guided walk through the bush before dinner. Overnight under the stars.

MARALAL Day 1

Free transfer departs from Nairobi at 09:00am traveling via Nyahururu, Rumuruti to our Maralal Camel Club for overnight in self contained Bandas [cottages].

Lake Bagoria Day 13 & 14

DAY 13
Early morning start making a scenic drive through Lake Bagoria Park, a shallow soda Lake with beautiful scenery and also home to a sizeable number of Flamingo’s and other species of birds. After viewing the boiling hot springs and geysers, we proceed south to Lake Nakuru, home to thousands of Flamingo’s, as well as Lions, Warthogs, Waterbuck, Buffaloes, Hippo, leopard and many others. Dinner and overnight in a campsite outside of town.

DAY 14
After breakfast, you are assisted onto a shuttle bus returning to Nairobi.

Lake Baringo Day 12

Joining the safari vehicle at Kisima, you descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Baringo in the afternoon. This is a fresh water lake which supports a great variety of birds, as well as hippos and crocodiles. Indeed. The Lake is reputed to be the bird-watching centre of Kenya.

We journey South via S. Horr and Baragoi to Yare Club at Maralal. Another forested area, Samburu abound in their
red ochre. Dinner in camp before joining the camel section, overnight in self contained Bandas.

Lake Turkana Day 5 & 6

DAY 05
Departing early we cross the Chalbi Desert. The desert can not be crossed if wet, but there is an all weather road around the North side which is mostly lava. We arrive at the permanent beach campsite just outside Loiyangalani. After visiting Marsabit town, we make our way down into the desert and lava flows. We camp at Kalacha, a small settlement on the edge of the Chalbi desert.

DAY 06 
A day exploring, bathing and resting at Loiyangalani with boat excursion to and EI Molo bay.

Marsabit Day 3

Marsabit is an extinct volcano heavily forested on the upper slopes. We will visit the Lodge in the National Park.

Samburu Day 1 & 2

DAY 01

Tsavo East – afternoon return to Coast Day 4

To benefit from the cool of the day we rise early for a game drive before breakfast returning to camp for breakfast. After breakfast we have a game drive in a different area and return to camp for lunch. We then depart for the return drive to the coast with a game drive en-route whilst inside Tsavo East arriving at our hotel in the late afternoon.

Amboseli to Tsavo West Day 3

We rise early for an early morning game drive in the cool morning air with a chance to see predators on the move returning to our lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we drive out of Amboseli across the plains into Tsavo West for lunch at Kilaguni Lodge. After lunch we continue driving through the park and onto the main road and then enter tsavo east at Voi for a game drive enroute to our camp. Dinner and camp fire and overnight at our camp.

Tsavo West to Amboseli Day 2

In the morning we enjoy breakfast in camp and then leave for the drive to Amboseli passing close to the foothills of Kilimanjaro. We enter the Amboseli park and proceed for lunch at our lodge. After lunch we enjoy an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is a small park and the elephant and buffalo are easily found here. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Coast to Tsavo West Day 1

We leave early for a clear start on the main Mombasa Nairobi highway and enter Tsavo West for a game drive en-route to our camp. After lunch at our camp we have an afternoon game drive to see more animals. Dinner and camp fire and overnight at our comfortable camp.

Amboseli – Return to Coast via Tsavo Day 5

Breakfast in the morning and last chance to see the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro. After breakfast we depart for the coat with game drives en-route through the Amboseli and Tsavo parks. Lunch is at the Voi Safari Lodge. After lunch drive on the main highway to the coast arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Tsavo West to Amboseli Day 4

We start the day with Breakfast at Kilaguni lodge with views over the waterhole and then drive over the masai plains to Amboseli park. En-route game viewing and arrive at Amboseli Serena lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we have game viewing to see the elephants in the swamps of Amboseli. Dinner and overnight at the Amboseli Serena Lodge.

Tsavo West Day 3

Early morning game drive or guided bush walk when guide available. Return to our camp for breakfast. After breakfast we depart for a game drive en-route through Tsavo to Kilaguni Lodge where we have lunch. After lunch an afternoon game drive visiting the mzima springs with an underwater tank to see hippo and fish. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Tsavo East to Tsavo West Day 2

Rise early for breakfast and then a game drive en route to the main road and onwards to Tsavo West with opportunities to see various game en-route to your camp. Lunch at your camp followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at your camp or lodge.

Coast to Tsavo West Day 1

We leave our hotel early in the morning and drive on the Mombasa Nairobi highway to enter Tsavo East at Sala or Bachuma Gate with a en-route game drive to your camp for lunch. After lunch a game drive in an area of Tsavo East and then dinner, camp fire and overnight.

Samburu National Park Day 7-8

DAY 7
You have a full day to explore the Samburu park considered one of the more colourful and attractive game viewing areas of Kenya. Your camp at Larsens is set in a tranquile environment where you embrace nature and the river brings you countless wildlife interest. Here you will find the rarer Grevy’s Zebra, reticulated giraffe and the long necked gerunuk gazelle. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your camp.

DAY 8
After breakfast you will be driven back to Nairobi to be dropped off at the airport or your hotel arriving at lunch time.

Lake Naivasha to Samburu Day 6

After breakfast you depart on a scenic drive to climb over high verdant woodland via Nyahururu Falls, often called its colonial name of Thomsons Falls, to cross the southern plains of the Laikipia close to the foothills of Mount Kenya as you cross the equator and then descend thousands of feet to the semi arid dry bush country of Samburu, home to the nomadic Rendille and Samburu Boran peoples. After a late lunch at your camp you will enjoy an afternoon game drive in this small rugged and remote park where game is plentiful close to the Ewaso Nyiro river. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your camp

Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha Day 5

Up early for an early morning game drive to see protected rhinos and the elegant rare Rothschild’s giraffe. After breakfast you leave behind the pink flamingo shores for a morning drive to Lake Naivasha arriving in time for lunch. Enjoy tremendous panoramic views from the lovely green golf course overlooking the pretty Lake Naivasha. Here you may relax or, optionally, book a round of golf, a horse ride or a boat trip on the lake to meet the local hippo. Dinner and overnight at the country golf club

Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru Day 4

After breakfast you leave the Mara to drive over the wooded highlands of the Mau escarpment to then drop thousand of feet to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, longest valley in the world, to enter Lake Nakuru national park in time for lunch at your Lodge. After lunch you will drive around the Lake shore to see large flocks of migratory pink Flamingos, considered a wildlife spectacle when they number in the millions. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your Lodge.

Masai Mara Day 3

Early morning game drive in the crisp morning air looking for predators on the move. Late breakfast in your camp followed by further game drives. The entire day is for game viewing. Dinner, camp fire and overnight in your camp.

After breakfast in your Nairobi hotel your safari starts by driving north west across the highlands and down the rift valley escarpment to the valley floor past the volcanoes of Longonot and Suswa. You climb higher as you enter the Mara in time for a late lunch. After lunch at your lodge you have an afternoon game drive to start exploring the game reserve with the highest concentration of wild life in Kenya. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your tented camp.

Arrival at the beach Day 10

After an early breakfast you explore part of the dry bush country of Tsavo East with a chance to see the ‘red elephants’, visiting the Lugard falls at Crocodile Point on the Sabaki river. Lunch will be at your camp and after check-out you drive out off Tsavo East on en-route game drive departing the Sala or Bachumu Gate arriving at your beach hotel in the late afternoon.

Amboseli to Tsavo East Via Tsavo West Day 9

You leave Amboseli after an early breakfast to drive across the Masai plains to the foothills of the volcanic Chyulu Hills, past lava flows with a game drive en-route to see the Tsavo West Mzima Springs. Here you may see hippo underwater from a special underwater tank. Lunch at the Kilaguni Serena Lodge where you will see game at the water hole close to the lodge. After lunch you have a game drive en-route as you leave the green hills of Tsavo West and drive via the main Mombasa highway to Tsavo East entering the park at Voi Gate. Dinner and overnight at Satao Camp.

Amboseli National Park Day 8

You have the entire day to explore this jewel of a National Park that is small but full of a large variety of game. Get up early for a game drive in the cool morning air with a chance to see the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro returning to your lodge for a late breakfast. Amboseli is hot and dusty. The swimming pool is welcome during the middle of the day. On the afternoon game drive hunt down elephant in the swamps. Dinner, camp fire and overnight.

Masai Mara to Amboseli via Nairobi Day 7

After breakfast you will leave the Mara via Narok, the Masai main town in the area, crossing wheat farms and game on route with a chance to see more plains game including giraffe as you cross the valley floor before climbing the escarpment and then leading into the capital of Nairobi. Arriving in time for lunch you afterwards continue driving south on tarmac roads to Namanga at the Tanzania border where you turn onto murram roads leading to Amboseli. Inside the park you will see game en-route to your lodge. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your lodge.

Masai Mara Day 6

As you are in the heart of some of the best game viewing Kenya has to offer, this will be your second whole day in the Mara, a feature of this safari, as you have time off from long road journeys and a chance to relax. Game drives at your leisure. Dinner, camp fire and overnight.

After breakfast you travel by road leaving the flamingo fringed shores of the lake behind as you head across the floor of the Great Rift Valley and climb up the Mau escarpment before heading towards Narok and the Massai Mara. After entering the Mara reserve you will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will have your first game drive to discover the magic of the Mara. Dinner, camp fire and overnight at your lodge.

Mount Kenya to Lake Nakuru Day 3

After breakfast you depart by road across verdant woodland via Nyahururu Falls, often called its colonial name of Thomsons Falls, and drop down thousands of feet to the rift valley floor, a spectacular scenic drive, that takes you to Lake Nakuru National Park, home to migrating flocks of thousands of colourful flamingos. After lunch at your lodge you will have an afternoon game drive. The lake is home to rhino and the rare Rothschild giraffe. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Leaving Nairobi immediately after breakfast you drive north through coffee plantations and then through green wooded hills as you climb higher into the heart of up country Kenya. Close to the mountain you climb higher through the trees to Mountain Lodge on the slopes of Mt. Kenya. This tree lodge is in a forest glade with a floodlit waterhole for day and night game viewing. Lunch and dinner at the lodge. Overnight you may stay up late watching for game.

Departure to Nairobi Day 8

You may have early morning game drive to find predators on the move and return for breakfast. Your flight leaves around 11 am arriving Wilson at about midday. You then transfer to your hotel or International airport for departure. Optionally you may instead fly direct to the coast for a beach holiday.

Masai Mara Reserve Day 7

You have the whole day to explore the magnificent Mara. After breakfast you will be transferred to Samburu airstrip for a mid-morning flight crossing the Great Rift Valley to the fabled plains games of the Masai Mara. You will be transferred from the airstrip to your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch you will have your first afternoon game drive in the rolling grass plains of the Mara returning at sunset for dinner and overnight.

Samburu Day 5

The whole day is available for game drives. Rugged and remote this area is home to the colourful Samburu people and the Samburu National Park provides some of the better game viewing in Kenya. Amboseli to Samburu Day 4

After an early breakfast you will be driven to Amboseli airport for a flight to Samburu via Wilson airport. After entering the park gate you will be driven to your lodge for lunch. Here in Kenya’s north eastern hot semi arid region the Ewaso Nyiru river provides coolness and shade from riverine treelines. Game is prolific and you may see the rarer Grevy’s Zebra, reticulated Giraffe and the longed neck Gerenuk gazelle. Dinner and overnight at your Lodge.

Amboseli National Park Day 3

Early morning game drive with the chance to see the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro before the clouds build. Return to the Lodge for a late breakfast. Amboseli abounds with plains game, elephant, buffalo, hyena and the chance to see cheetah and lion. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

After breakfast in your hotel we transfer you to domestic Wilson Airport for a morning 35 minute flight to Amboseli National Park arriving in the early morning. En-route to your Lodge you have a game drive with check in at lunch time. Lunch at your lodge. During the afternoon game drive you will have the chance to see swamp elephants. Dinner and overnight.

Tsavo East - Coast Day 8

Early morning game drive in the cool air with a chance to see predators and elephant. After breakfast a mid morning game drive in a different area and return to camp for lunch. Plenty of bird life and plains game. After lunch you depart the camp to drive to your coast beach hotel with a game drive en-route before leaving Tsavo East at Sala or Bachuma Gate. You arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Tsavo West to Tsavo East Day 7

After breakfast you will have a game drive en-route to the Mzima freshwater springs where you may see hippos underwater from a specially constructed underground tank. Return to your lodge for lunch and after lunch you leave the green wooded hills of Tsavo West for en-route game drives as you drive to Tsavo east. Part of this drive is on the main Mombasa highway. Arrive at your camp for dinner, camp fire and overnight.

Wake up early for a morning game drive in the cool air with a chance to see the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro and the swamp elephants. After lunch depart Amboseli with a game drive en-route until you leave the park to cross the masai plains as you drive to Tsavo West. You will pass close to the foothills of the Chyulu Hills with volcanic cones and lava flows. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Lake Nakuru to Amboseli Day 5

After breakfast and a morning game drive you will leave the flamingo lined shores of the lake behind as you travel south on the main road to the capital of Nairobi arriving in time for lunch. After lunch you continue by road further south to Namanga at the Tanzania border turning onto a murram road for Amboseli. Inside this small but ever popular Amboseli park the game is easily found and you will have a game drive en-route to your lodge. Dinner,camp fire and overnight at your lodge.

Mara to Lake Nakuru Day 4

Early morning game drive followed by breakfast in camp. After breakfast you depart the Mara to drive to Lake Nakuru crossing the highland of the Mau escarpment and dropping thousands of feet to the valley floor. Lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon you will have a game drive around the lake shore to see the colourful spectacle of thousands of flamingos. There is plenty of game concentrated around the lake and you have a chance to see rhinos under protection plus the elegant Rothschild’s giraffe. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Masai Mara Day 3

Early morning game drive in the crisp morning air looking for predators on the move. Late breakfast in your camp followed by further game drives. The entire day is for game viewing. After breakfast in your Nairobi hotel your safari starts by driving north west across the highlands and down the rift valley escarpment to the valley floor past the volcanoes of Longonot and Suswa. You climb higher as you enter the Mara in time for a late lunch. After lunch at your lodge you have an afternoon game drive to start exploring the Kenya reserve with the highest concentration of wild life. Dinner,camp fire and overnight at your tented camp.

Lake Baringo to Lake Naivasha Day 6 & 7

DAY 6
After breakfast you drive south on a tarmac road to the south end of Lake Naivasha where there is a small adjoining lake and the beautiful and elegant Mundui Estate home to Lord and Lady Enniskillen where you will have lunch. You stay in a cottage adjacent to the main house originally built as a hunting lodge. Mundui has 1,200 acres of private game sanctuary where plains game is plentiful. This is a wonderful way to conclude a special safari with exclusive elegance, good food and absorbing company.

DAY 7
After breakfast you leave Lake Naivasha and drive to Nairobi for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant where your safari ends.

Laikipia to Lake Baringo Day 5

After breakfast you bid farewell to your hosts and drive past Rumuruti as you head for Lake Baringo to the east of the Laikipia plateau. Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake in a very hot area. The lake takes on dramatic mud tinged colours. Birdlife is prolific and hippo and crocodile are found everywhere. The local Njemp tribes people fish from modest canoes. Arrive to transfer to a motorised canoe for a 20 minute ride to the island and Island Camp. This part of your tour is not a luxury stay but you will sense adventure and timeless Africa. After lunch you may go on a bird walk and in the evening you have a guided boat ride for bird viewing.

Lewa Downs to Laikipia Day 4

Leave after a bush breakfast to drive to Laikipia’s Loisaba Wilderness 70 kilometres north of Mount Kenya arriving for lunch where you will be hosted by another Kenyan family at their 60,000 acre wildlife conservancy and working cattle ranch on the edge of the Laikipia plateau. Activities include bird watching, cultural visits to Samburu and Mukogondo Masai villages, night and day game drives in specially prepared open roof vehicles as well as horse and camel riding.

Amboseli to Lake Nakuru Day 4

We start with an early morning breakfast and a chance to see the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. There are some rugged sections until we are on tarmac roads to the capital of Nairobi where we stop for lunch. After lunch we head off, still on tarmac roads, for Lake Nakuru, with scenic views as we drop down the side of an escarpment to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, longest valley in the world. After entering the Lake Nakuru park we have a game drive on the edge of the lake before reaching our lodge. The flamingos are a beautiful sight. Dinner and overnight.

All meals are taken at your lodge.

Day 7
Depart after a morning game drive and breakfast. Enjoy a picnic lunch en-route to arrive back in Nairobi at app 1600-1800hrs.
