The Giraffe Manor, built in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, is situated on 140 acres of land just a few miles from the center of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city. In 1974, Jock Leslie-Melville, grandson of a Scottish earl, and his wife Betty, who also founded the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW), bought the Manor. They then moved five babies of the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe to their property where they have been successfully reared and they now have their own babies. When Jock passed away, Betty decided to open her house, now called the Giraffe Manor, to visitors.
• The Giraffe Manor is known around the world for its elegance, warm hospitality and remarkable Rothschild giraffe. The Giraffes redefine the concept of Africa’s countryside living.
• Exclusive, spacious and elegant, it is the only place in the world that you can feed giraffes from your second floor bedroom window, over the lunch table, and at the front door. Guests can feed and photograph the giraffe and the Warthogs at the Manor, and also wander through the adjoining primeval forest to view the bushbuck, dik dik, and more than 180 species of birds.
• At the Giraffe Manor, you will be a guest in a unique family home. Rick and Bryony Anderson have created the perfect private retreat with their rich blend of warm accommodations, highly qualified staff, and one of Kenya’s finest kitchens.
• In the graceful living room, the cheerful ’sun room’, and the distinctive wood-paneled dining room, the traditional elegance of the house’s 1930s origins meet the more refined comforts of today.
• The Giraffe Manor offers 5 double bedrooms, immaculately furnished in the style of their day, with large four-poster beds, antique furnishings and striking art deco bathrooms.
• Two of the rooms convert to a family suite, while the rear of the house has a large extension ideal for older children.
• One of the main bedrooms boasts the original furniture from Karen Blixen’s guestroom, and is hung with wildlife paintings by her famous cook, Kamante.
• The second floor offers beautiful views over the surrounding forests and the distinctive peaks of Blixen’s beloved Ngong Hills.
• The Giraffe Manor is a Mecca for famous people who include names like, Margaret Mead, Walter Cronkite, Brooke Shields, Richard Chamberlain, Steve Sondheim, Lee Remick, Johnny Carson, Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall - and many other titled notables.
• Giraffe Manor serves as a perfect alternate accommodation to the traditional Nairobi city hotels when visiting the capital city of Kenya during your African safari overnight, Kenya countryside vacation or even on a business trip.

Culinary and Dining Experience
• As a family-run hotel, one of Fairview Hotel’s goals is to ensure that food is not standard hotel food but rather has the ‘home cooked’ touch - tasty, comforting and ample. Fairview offers a great range of dining alternatives.
• Fairview Pwani Pool Restaurant, adjoining the Swimming Pool, offers a full range of international cuisine in a casual environment. Its bar is a favorite with residents in the evening.
• The Mukutan Garden Café is without a doubt the best place in Upper Hill (perhaps all of Nairobi) for top-notch coffees and light/quick meals such as gourmet sandwiches, pizzas and Quesadillas.
Facilities:
• Business Center: Recently, Fairview constructed a Business Centre that offers the following facilities: email, Internet browsing, computer renting, typing, faxing, photocopying, shredding and scanning.
• Internet Access In The Rooms: Fairview Hotels has 2 options for guests requiring internet access in the rooms. The first is wireless access (Wi-Fi). Fairview is presently rolling out a Wi-Fi network so please check with Reception to determine whether wi-fi is available in your room. If you don’t have a Wi-Fi card, Fairview will happily sell and install for you. The second option is a wired Ethernet connection - unfortunately, only 6 rooms have this option so please request it during your reservation with AfricanMecca and we will be happy to check availability.
• Swimming Pool: Another recent addition to The Fairview is the new hotel swimming pool. Situated behind the business center the pool is currently for residents only and is open from 7.00 am to 6.30pm every day. Maintained at a constant temperature of 28 degrees the new swimming pool is cleverly designed to resemble the famous Fairview window - the top semi-circular portion being for kiddies only.
• Fitness Gym: The Bridge to Fitness, recently opened, has a wonderful view of the pool area and contains 2 treadmills, a stepper, rowing machine, basic weights, leg press, an upper body all in one system and a few other of the basics. All equipment is manufactured by “Life Fitness”. For the time being, the gym is only open to hotel and Apartment residents.
