Type : Lodge Safari Duration: 2 nights 3 days
Locations Visited: Mount Elgon
Description:Travel to Mount Elgon, on the Kenya Uganda border, here you can view the Sipi Falls. Trek on the mountain, go abseiling next to the falls.
Day 1
Late morning departure from Kampala heading for eastern Uganda, Mount Elgon. Mount Elgon is a 4,321m high extinct volcano which in prehistoric times stood taller than Kilimanjaro. In the foothills of Mount Elgon is where the Sipi Falls are found, three beautiful falls. Stop over in Mbale town, a lively bustling market town which is the capital of Bugisu land and has architecture reminiscent of the colonial area. Dinner and overnight at Lacam Lodge.
Day 2
After enjoying a late breakfast while feasting on a magnificent view, go abseiling. This is a unique and thrilling way for visitors to be able to view the Sipi falls while going down the edge of a 100 metre cliff using a rope which is threaded through a metal loop drilled into the rock above the waterfall and tied onto a harness placed around your waist. This gives you a wonderful view into the valley below and the opportunity to see the falls up-close. Have a quiet afternoon, relaxing after lunch. Dinner and overnight at Lacam Lodge.
Day 3
In the morning, take a walk to the base of the falls and relax while taking a dip in the cool water of the falls. After lunch, leave for Kampala.
Scenary
Spectacular scenery is the main attraction for the hikers on this often neglected and relatively undemanding mountain but there is also a variety of forest monkeys and small antelope, along with elephant and buffalo. A checklist topping 300 birds includes many species not recorded elsewhere in Uganda
